Overview

This year the Eriogonum Society will be returning to beautiful Bishop, California, and its abundance of buckwheats. With the Sierras to the west, White Mountains to the east, and volcanic features to the north, Bishop has a wide range of habitats that support some impressive Eriogonum diversity plus close relatives like Dedeckera, Oxytheca, and Chorizanthe.

The meeting will be August 7-10th, with an optional field trip on the 11th, so mark your calendars. The southern Sierras are beautiful this time of year, so plan a few extra days to visit Mammoth or Yosemite. More details and registration links will be coming soon. We will not be offering lodging this year and rooms in Bishop fill up fast in the summer, so make your reservations soon

Logistic Tips

Getting There / Transportation

Bishop has an airport, but it may be more affordable to fly to a close major city, especially if you can carpool or would be renting a vehicle anyway. Bishop has the following proximity to major cities:

  • Reno, NV – 3.5 hours, mostly along the north half of the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway, US-395. Passes by Mono Lake.
  • Bakersfield, CA – 4 hours, along the south half of the Scenic Byway.
  • Las Vegas, NV – 4 hours, along mostly US-95 N. Option to extend drive to 5 hours by passing through Death Valley and continuing on the Scenic Byway.
  • Sacramento, CA – 5 hours, along US-50 E then the north section of the Scenic Byway.
  • Los Angeles, CA – 5 hours, along the Bakersfield route.

A rideshare sheet will be available to attendees.

Lodging

This year we are not able to bundle a lodging option with the meeting fee. There are a number of lodging options in and around Bishop. The Bishop Visitor’s Bureau lists lots of options for lodging, from hotels to camping.
